Days in Daytona Beach

MARCH 9

We've arrived at Daytona Beach at Halifax Marina around 10:30 this
morning. After checking in, Jim picked up our Enterprise car rental.
Connie and Don from Nordic Tugs in Essex have been on vacation here in
Daytona, and they stopped over to say hi. We had a great visit with
them and it was so nice to see them. We are going over tomorrow to
their beach! Jim and I washed the boat, every nook and cranny we could
find got scrubbed, and I did the windows with the squigee. We went out
to dinner with Jeannette and Charlie to The Aquarium restaurant. You
felt like you were inside of one with the fish tanks, lights, and
bubbles. We are all very tired from traveling the past few days and
welcome a morning to relax before getting busy with our new "home" for
the next month.

MARCH 10-11

Today we drove over to visit with Connie and Don at their condo right on the beach. Jim visited with
Don, while Charlie, Jeannette, Connie, and I walked along the beach. The water was absolutely
beautiful, as was the sound of the waves crashing on the sand. We saw 6 stingrays swimming in a tide
pool. We met up with Max and Judy and all went to The Top of Daytona with great views of the ICW
and the Atlantic form the 29th floor.

MARCH 12-15

On March 12, Jim and I drove along Daytona Beach for several miles to take in the sights. On our way
back, we stopped at a shop to by a T-shirt, and Jeannette and Charlie met up with us. They had ridden
their bikes to the beach and along A1A and had stopped for tea next door. It's amazing how we met up!
When we were driving across the bridge, we saw looper Foreign Exchange enter the harbor. We drove
over to greet them at the fuel dock. They were traveling with friends on Starlight. We had happy hour
on their boat, then went to the Aquarium restaurant for dinner. They left the next day to head north.
On Friday, Jim played FINALLY got to play some golf.

The highlight for March 13 was our walk over to the Chocolate Factory store. They make all kinds of
delicious chocolates right in the back of the shop. Although tempted, I only bought 4 small pieces of dark
bark chocolate.

Saturday, March 14, we drove over to the Farmer's Market just up the street. They had great
vegetables, oranges, and strawberries. We stopped at a little breakfast shop along Beach Street for a
real tasty breakfast before heading back to the boat. In the afternoon we had company. Barry who we
know from L. Champlain who now lives in Naples, drove up with Rhoda to visit and learn about the Great
Loop trip. We had a great afternoon and evening visiting with them.

On March 15, our day started with a trip to the Daytona Flea Market. It's HUGE! We never got to see
the whole thing, so the next time Jim plays golf, the 3 of us will head over again to see what else we can
find there. We drove by the Daytona Speedway. In the evening we saw DISCOVERY SPACE SHUTTLE
TAKE OFF! Although it was about 50 miles away, we could see it rise into the sky with a bright flame,
leaving a beautiful trail. It was a great end to our day.

Pictures of the space shuttle Discovery take off from Kennedy Space Center from the bridge of Golden
Lily. We were 50 miles away, but it went right in front of us over the ocean. It was spectacular. With
the binoculars we could see the flame up close and the shadow of the space craft.
MARCH 17

Yesterday, March 18, we drove to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. Jim, Jeannette and Charlie climbed the
203 steps to the top which is 175 feet high, but it was a little steep and windy for me! Today we
drove to Bob's Bike Shop and I bought a new bike. It has 7 speeds which is perfect, comfortable seat,
large tires (white walls) and the old fashioned type handle bars. It's aluminum and quite light. Our
friends from Ct drove over, Dave and his son Kelly, who are driving around during spring break to see
baseball games.

All 6 of us were planning to go the Olive Garden, but when we got to our car, we noticed the passenger
window had been smashed and our GPS stolen. This all happened in broad daylight just up the dock from
our boat. The police came and one officer really helped us get hold of Enterprise. We had to call the
airport because the other office was closed. Jim managed to drive it to Daytona Airport where, after
over an hour of paperwork, was given another car. Dave and Kelly had to leave to drive 2 1/2 hours
south since it got very late.We finally made it to dinner and got back to the boat by 11:00.
