JUNE 29 - Catskill to Waterford

We left Catskill at 0630, and after the Troy Federal Lock, docked at
Waterford, NY. There is a town dock that has free dockage and is just
below the Erie Lock 2 - The Waterford Flight which consists of 5 locks one
right after the other, with a lift of 168 feet. There was a farmer's
market going on here, a band playing, and lots of action for the afternoon.
Jim's cousins joined us and took us out to dinner. They are planning to ride
with us to St. Johnsville tomorrow night. Jeannette and Charlie on Highlander
docked shortly after we did.

JUNE 30 - Waterford to St. Johnsville

Jim's cousins Don, Barbara, Jane, and Ken met us bright and early - 0600 - for an early departure from
Waterford. We were lifted 168 ft. on the 5 locks of the Waterford Flight, then we continued west on
the Mohawk River/Erie Canal. It was a beautiful day. They brought grinders, snacks, cookies, and
doughnuts, so we had plenty to eat! We stopped at Amsterdam for a pit stop for Lily. Just before we
reached St. Johnsville Municipal Dock, Lily got sick. It appeared that she had some kind of stomach bug.
We have plenty of meds for her, and gave her famotidine and then metronidazole. She can only have ice
cubes and start food tomorrow afternoon. I'm sure she will be very hungry by then. Poor Lily.
Today we did 14 locks and traveled 70 miles in 11 hours.  Our next stop is Sylvan Beach on Oneida lake.
The ride is about 60 miles, but only 7 locks.

JULY 1 - St. Johnsville to Sylvan Beach

We left St. Johnsville at 0700 ready for Lock 16. It was a quiet ride along the Erie. Lily slept most of
the time from her busy day yesterday. She seems to be feeling better. We reached Mariner's landing
Marina at Sylvan Beach in late afternoon. Jim walked up to the store to buy some rice for her. She has
had only small amounts of water and a tiny piece of bread with grape jelly to get her pills down. She
totally locked her jaw and would not let me open it to give her the medication. Time to wash 3 of Lily's
blankets and her bed. We hope to cross Oneida Lake tomorrow and will have to check the wave and wind
conditions early. It's only a 2 hour crossing to Brewerton, but the lake is shallow and can get nasty
strong winds.

JULY 2 -3  Sylvan Beach to Brewerton

We left Mariner's Landing at 0730. Oneida Lake was very calm, waves one foot or less. It was an easy
and relaxing crossing. We arrived at Wiinter Harbor Marina in Brewerton, NY at 0930, fueled up ( 300
gallons of diesel!), pumped out, and tied up at the dock. We met a couple from Florida who have
completed the Loop, and are now traveling the Erie. We borrowed the marina's courtesy car and went out
to dinner together, shared stories and tips on boat travel. Jim washed the boat, we did some laundry in
our cute little washer/dryer, and relaxed for the evening. It looks like there some "weather" ahead for
Thursday, so we may wind up staying here another day.

We are spending another day in Brewerton. It is raining on and off and the forecast is thunderstorms.
area, and there's a nice grassy area for Lily . The boat needs to be vacuumed, and we still have to
organize our guest stateroom "walk in closet"!

JULY 4 - Brewerton to Oswego

We left Brewerton at 0945. We had to make a stop at the grocery store to pick up some items for Lily
in case she had another stomach problem. By the time we got back, she finally "went" after 4 days.
Were we relieved, and I'm sure she was, too! It was a peaceful ride to Oswego. We are presently above
Lock 8, docked on the wall (free!), with a nice view of the river towards Lake Ontario. Once we leave for
Canada, we will not have Verizon wireless service, and the only time we can post the website and receive
email will be if we find a marina or hotel with WiFi service. So, we may not be able to respond to email
until then.
