JUNE 9                           Day 349

We had a thunderstorm during the night and woke up at 6:00 AM to
cloudy skies. By 7:30 the sky darkened and at 8:00, we had a severe
thunderstorm, lightning, and pouring rain. We HAD to leave because the
wakes from the taxis coming into the channel were rocking the boat so
much, I would have gotten sick staying on it all day. We never remember
having any wake at this marina before. After checking Sirius weather, we
saw that the front would be moving away toward the northeast, and
that's just what it did. By 10:00, the rain stopped, and we both got
underway. The harbor wasn't as busy as when we came in, but there were
still water taxis all over, creating those monster wakes.

It wasn't long before we passed the tip of the Battery and headed up the East River past Pier 7 and
South Street Seaport where we said good bye to the last water taxi. The water was calm and we had
the tide pushing us ahead. Hell Gate had some current, but was an easy passage. The rest of the ride to
Port Washington, LI was flat calm, a real joy after some of the seas we have had lately.

We arrived at Port Washington, Brewers Capri Marina where we stayed the second night of the start of
the Loop, and shortly after a brief thunderstorm passed over but more over LI Sound. Storms were
forecast for late in the afternoon, and we were glad to just have a short day...25 miles. Pizza is on the
menu for supper. Charlie has been waiting for a good pizza!

Tomorrow we hope to go the 60 miles to Branford, and Thursday to Westbrook and Pilot's Point Marina!
JUNE 10                                          Day 350

At 7:00 AM the fog was still pretty thick, so we waited an hour, and got underway, still in the fog.
There was still 1 mile visibility as we entered Long Island Sound. It was a little rough with waves about
2+ feet, but this decreased to about 1 as we got further along. We arrived at Bruce and Johnson's
Marina in Branford at 3:00.

the Dockside restaurant here at the marina. It was good to see everyone. MaryAnne and Jack from our
CG Auxiliary flotilla stopped by after the meeting in the Clinton base which is just a few miles from
here. We will be checking the weather for tomorrow as rain is still in the forecast. We hope there will
be a weather window to head 25 miles to our marina tomorrow.

JUNE 11                                          Day 351

We were lucky to have a weather window after a light shower around 9:00, so we departed Branford for
the short 25 mile trip west along the coastline to Westbrook. It's usually such a pretty ride with the
Thimble Islands and shoreline scenery, but it was hazy and cloudy. The seas were about a 2 foot chop
when we left, but calmed down to 1 after an hour. We reached Pilot's Point Marina at 12:15, pumped
out, and topped off the fuel tanks, then headed to our slip. We forgot what a tricky and narrow channel
we have!

When we docked our friends, Duncan and his wife, Lise, and their new 9 week old black lab puppy greeted
us at the dock. It was so good to see them. We all had hamburgers at the Boom restaurant here and
caught up on local details and shared our trip. Jeannette and Charlie know Duncan from when he crewed
for Jim on the Mississippi back in September.

Jeannette and Charlie took a ride to us back home and boy, do we have work to do in the yard. I usually
start trimming bushes and overgrowth in early April, so you can imagine what it's like with all the rain.
Behind the garage is like a jungle of wild pricker bushes and I'm sure there's poison ivy mixed in and
along the fence. We need to buy a new bush clipper and get to work. The house is covered with pollen,
making the roof and gutters looks a big yellowish. We have lots of projects to do, but the boat will be
coming out of the water for a short time to get the bottom painted and we will be having it commercially
washed and waxed.

It hard to believe just a year ago we were sitting in the same slip getting ready to leave for our trip,
and we are now back thinking about the experiences we have had!
We arrived at Pilot's Point Marina in Westbrook, CT at 12:15, covering 5,956
miles total for this year's trip!
