SEPTEMBER 3

We are aboard Golden Lily bracing for Hurricane Earl. Several others
are aboard their boats on our dock as well, plus quite a few boats have
come in as transients since our marina is very protected. Gusts are
predicted up to 40 MPH, so we have extra lines tied and everything
secured. We are set with our generator, propane stove, and full water
tank. We can always head over to the clubhouse if things get too scary!
SEPTEMBER 8

The hurricane blew over us! We had a little rain and hardly any wind. However, the weekend brought
winds 25-30 with gust higher. Good thing everyone tied their boats! The sky was blue and weather
perfect, but seas on LI Sound were reported to be 7-8 feet.

OCTOBER 5

We will be staying home this winter and Golden Lily will be on and hard, shrink wrapped, and sitting so
lonely without us. But I guess rest is good for all of us! We are busy cleaning up the house and scrubbing
everything and taking things off the boat slowly, but having everything neatly placed in plastic bins to
take back on the boat in April. I'm singing in our church choir at the church were I was organist for 12
years before we started our boat traveling. I try to go up and practice the organ several times a week
to get my fingers and feet back in shape again. I've also got my flute out, warming up with some
contemporary Noels for flute and piano, and re-tuning my harp. We had our picket fence removed and a
strong 4 foot split rail fence now in place with 2 X 4 wiring to keep Lily in the yard. It's looks great!
Lily's happy to have run time in the yard and playing with her frisbee. Jim is beginning work to
decommission the boat and I'll begin lemon oiling the teak shortly.

We hope to get one more ride aboard before Golden Lily comes out of the water. The weather has been
too windy and rainy the past few weeks. Hopefully, we will get some nice days in the next 2 weeks for a
ride up the Connecticut River to view the foliage.

OCTOBER 14

We had 1 day that would have been good for a boat ride, but Jim had already begun washing and waxing
Golden Lily, and I was in the middle of home cleaning projects, so we missed the opportunity. All the
other days have been windy, and now there's a nasty storm moving in. Jim will begin winterizing our tug
next week, and then Golden Lily will be taken out of the water the week of the 25th. Our house is
finally cleaned from top to bottom and ready for us moving back in. The mudroom is still piled high with
blankets and clothes that had been sitting home for 2 years, but I'm beginning to see a dent in the mess
and things should be totally back to normal by next week. Final projects include cleaning out the garage
and porch, and then there's yard work and raking all the leaves that fall from the hundreds of trees
around our house...mostly oak!

Our Coast Guard Auxiliary meeting was last night and a lot of planned: Coast Guard dinner on the 25th,
we will be teaching for a boating safely class on the 23th, and Christmas party on Dec. 17th. Jim signed
up for AUXCHEF, a program they are thinking about starting. Station New Haven will train members to
assist in the kitchen! Jim was a cook in the National Guard, so he's excited if they implement this
program. Choir is going well, and I'm back to organ practicing again in the church and at home as well
after cleaning all the music off the organ!

I went with a few friends to Lyman Orchards this week to get apple cider. We car pooled from Wendy's
farm and I got a chance to get some nice pictures of Wendy and her sheep, Dale, Zoe, and Dot.
OCTOBER 15

We had a nor'easter come through last night and it has continued to bring rain and wind which is kicking
up to 25-30+ knots and is expected to keep it up for the weekend. We need to get the boat to the fuel
dock by Tuesday for our final pump out. There is more wind than when the remnants of the hurricane
came through a few weeks ago. We have many extra lines tied on. Tomorrow I will be finally moving back
home, and Jim will stay aboard in order to start winterizing the boat. Our heat is not working in the
saloon and we had to order a new unit which will be delivered Tuesday.
OCTOBER 25 - Our 30th wedding anniversary!

Golden Lily came out of the water today and is shrink wrapped and resting along with all the other boats
closely stacked in the parking lot at the marina. It was sad to see our tug all emptied out and so lonely,
but a rest is good for all of us. Our house is finally cleaned after 2 years of living aboard, and we are
snuggled in for the winter, and look forward to April when we will get the boat loaded up again and ready
to go.

NOVEMBER 8

We had our first snow today! We woke up to several inches on the ground, but it was an icy, cold, sleet
type snow. Lily loved it, though, and ran around in the yard, kicking up her paws in fun. It slowly melted
during the day and now we have wet soggy leaves to finish raking - a big wet mess!
DECEMBER 2

The snow has all melted for now and we have lots of mud in our yard from all the heavy rain. We lost
power yesterday from high winds and tree limbs falling. Things are back to normal today and the sun is
shining. We have just decided to purchase a 2005 Winnebago Journey motor home and hopefully we will
have it home within the next 2 weeks. If things go as planned, we hope to leave for Florida sometime the
middle of January. We still plan to travel aboard "Golden Lily", but would like to see some of our country
by land, too! Tentative date to leave for a 2011 trip to Florida is the middle of January.

DECEMBER 29

We had our first major snowfall the day after Christmas. There's about 8 inches of snow outside. We
finally got the bracket on my car for towing and Jim hopes to drive to Ticonderoga to pick up the RV and
leave it at the Winnebago dealer in MA for a few warranty items to be adjusted. We still hope to leave
CT towards the end of January for the winter months.

Pictures below are of our house at Christmas.
JANUARY 14
Our Winnebago is now in MA getting warranty work done. We are snowed in right now, but hope to be
able to head to FL soon! We recently got 24 inches of snow, more to come next week.
JANUARY 23
We are still "snowed in" and waiting for a weather window to make a trip to MA to load the RV with
supplies, then bring the last load up the day we leave. A snowstorm is forecast for this week, so we will
just have to wait for a good day. The next posting will be when we are aboard and getting ready to leave.
