August 4-5 Westport to Whitehall to Schuyler Yacht Basin Page 17
We got underway at 9:30. A cold front has moved in, and the sky was
very blue, and the water on the lake shimmering, northwest wind that
pushed us along. The view of the Adirondack Mountains was fabulous.

Bob and Donna, Jim's brother, Bob and wife, Donna, drove to Lock 12 Marina to meet us. We had
dinner at Finch and Chubbs, walked back to the boat and lowered the mast for our start on the
Champlain Canal tomorrow. They will be taking the ride with us to Schuylerville. We were all very tired
and hit the sack around 10:00. We have a big day tomorrow going through the Champlain Canal. We
need to make sure they lower the water for us, since our boat is 16.4 ft.- clearance when they drop
the pond is 17 ft. The first bridge in Whitehall is the lowest bridge for our trip tomorrow.
August 5 - Whitehall to Schuyler Yacht Basin
We left Lock 12 Marina at 9:30 and locked through with a small tug. We were worried about the 2 low
bridges in Whitehall, but we had at least 18 inches clearance with our windshield which is now the
highest part of our boat with the mast, bimini, and antennae down. There were blue skies, no humidity,
light breeze and a perfect day for "canaling". We had a great dinner at The Wishing Well" restaurant in
Saratoga.

August 6 - Schuylerville to Catskill
We woke up to pouring rain. By 10:00 it cleared, but was cloudy. We checked our weather, and the
major storm passed. Although thunderstorms were in the forecast, we decided to make a run for Catskill.
We made the right choice because we only got a few rain drops south of Albany. We got to Catskill
Marina around 6:00. Lily was happy to finally get a walk! There is a Nordic 37, Spray, docked across
from us at a different Marina. We got to say hello the next morning as they left, setting out to do the
Little Loop. We plan to head to Half Moon Bay tomorrow to spend the night and visit with friends.
