the St. Lawrence River, and we only had a minor chop. We turned the
corner at Sorel onto the Richelieu River. Travel here takes time because of
many small boats tied up to docks and a few marinas. We tied up at the St.
dock deck was a grate which was not good for Liy's paws. She could easily
slip her paw down into one, plus just walking could cut her pads. SO...Jim
carried our dear 75 pound Golden all the way. Lucky dog! We reached
Chambly around 4:00, walked to Tres Colori Italian restaurant, stopped at
the grocery store, and were back to the boat by 8:30, very tired!
July 24 - Back to the USA!!!
Our day traveling on the Chambly Canal was off to a bad start. We left
Chambly Marina to tie up at the wall by the lock at 7:00. There were
already 5 boats there, then 2 more came. We were at the end of the wall.
We had to wait 3 hours to lock through with 3 other boats. Again, Lily had
to "go" since it was a long wait, and Jim had to carry her across the grated
dock. Locking through took hours and hours, and it is just a 10 mile canal! It
took time for all of us to get into our places, then we stopped in lock 8 for
15 minutes, then got held up for 50 minutes waiting for boats to pass by a
swimg bridge near St. Jeans. Back on the Richelieu we had to go slow in
some places, and it was now 4:30, and Lily needed a major break. She
started panting and shaking...she REALLY HAD TO GO!! We finally saw a
Canada park with a nice dock and pulled over. She hopped off and went
immediately! It took another 1 1/2 hours to reach Rouses Point, Lighthouse
Marina. We checked in with Customs, then ate dinner at San Marina's, the
restaurant at the marina. I got bitten by some insect in Quebec, which
started out like a mosquito bite, but must have been something way more.
My sting site was red, and the bottom half of my leg was stinging and red.
I went to bed early, keeping my leg elevated, sticking outside of the
blankets to keep cool. Not fun!
