July 30 - August 3 Burton Island to Westport, NY                              Page 16

We left Burton Island at 7:15 AM to catch the 8:00 swing bridge
opening at Grand Isle. The lake was as smooth as could be which was
so surprising because yesterday there was a strong north wind. The
wind was out of the north again, but very light, and we had a
following sea all the way for the 55 mile trip south to Westport, NY
on Northwest Bay. We fueled up and pumped out. Jim has plans to
play golf one day; me - I need to do about 8 loads of wash!! We also
office. There's a great little restaurant here, The Galley, that has
yummy sandwiches, lunches, and dinners. We will eat here a few
times. Lily loves to walk and play in the huge field just up the hill.
We have free wireless connection here, so it's a good place to catch
up on all our emails and keep up the website!

August 2 - We've had plenty of time to relax and especially do laundry! I had six loads to do including
Lily's bed sheet and couch blankets. Jim played golf at the Westport Golf Club. Yesterday we dropped
the dinghy in the early evening, had dinner, then took a short ride in the bay. There are only 3 transient
boats in the marina at this time and 3 sailboats anchored. Everyone who came in the past few days has
left.

August 3 - Today was our last full day at Westport. There was a cold front moving in, and with a
strong south wind, we rocked quite a bit in our slip. Lily and I took many short walks around the marina
and up in the field. She loves to sit at the fuel dock and greet people. We didn't take the dinghy out
for a ride because it was just too wavy, and we'd sure to get soaked. We saw a couple we met last
year, and they loaned Jim their car so he could go to the grocery store. They are very nice people! We
visited with them after dinner, then lifted the dinghy. I wanted to get a few pictures of the
"operation", but it got dark, and we had to turn on the spotlight to see what we were doing. At least
the water calmed down. It would have been tricky lifting it earlier with all the bouncing we did today,
but after the sun set, the water got smooth. We are heading south tomorrow. Every year when we
leave Westport, it's the beginning of our journey HOME!
