June 30 - Port Washington to Marlboro
Page 3
was the beginning of a beautiful day. Manhasset Bay was
very quiet.  We got underway at 8:00 AM. The seas were
under the Throgs Neck and Whitestone Bridges.  Everyone
rode up on the bridge, but I stayed in the pilot house with
Lily with the air on. We passed by LaGuardia Airport, then
headed for Hell Gate. The current was very strong and seas
very choppy. We headed down the East River against the tide
and current all the way to the Battery. We decided to go
drop the mast if we went up the Harlem River. There are
several bridges that might be too low for our mast.

Our camera needed to be charged and old pictures deleted.
George took pictures of our ride today, and when he gets
home will forward pictures of today's ride, and I will then
post on this page.

Rounding the tip of Manhattan, we passed the docks for the
Staten Island Ferry and Coast Guard station. Straight ahead
was the Statue of Liberty. As we turned to head north, the
wakes from the water taxis and boats were at least 4+
feet, coming from all directions. It was a wild "flume" ride,
like the kind you find at an amusement park.  We rolled and
pitched for 10 minutes. Poor Lily was beside herself as to
where she should lay or sit and began panting. I finally helped
her up onto the bench seat so she could settle against the
back and snuggle next to me. She was very content until the
boat rolled again from passing wakes. For the whole ride, she
anticipated the rolls, but finally settled in. By the end of the
day, she finally helped herself to sitting on the couch in the
salon!

We passed under the George Washington Bridge. The Spuyten
Duyvil Railroad Bridge was to our right. We then cruised
under theTappan Zee Bridge and Bear Mountain Bridge, We
finally came to West Point, and Newburgh and reached
Marlboro at 3:15. We hailed the Marlboro Yacht Club, and
they helped us into a slip. Jim did a great job backing

into a slip on the river. It's very rocking and rolling from
passing wakes even though there's a sign "NO WAKE". It
calmed down a little after 10:00 PM, but there was an
occasional rocking periodically from the tide and current. The
freight train track is directly behind the yacht club, so it got
a little noisy when the train went by. The members of the
yacht club were very nice and very helpful.

My cousins and aunt came by at 5:00 PM and we had dinner
at the Ship's Lantern - excellent dinners - huge pork chops,
sea bass, roasted chicken, and duck. We came back to the
boat and watched the fire works display across the Hudson
directly across from our boat. The noise didn't bother Lily. I
think she was so tired from being on the water all day.

As I'm typing, it has begun to rain, and the water has
become very choppy, and yes we are rocking and rolling in our
slip! We hit the sack at 11:00 PM. We have a short run
Sunday to Catskill, about 42 miles north.
